We have been working with Alina Lovin, a RE/MAX real estate agent in Osoyoos, BC Canada, on her professional real estate website www.OsoyoosHomes.com since mid May. We have already seen some very good results in the preliminary stage!
Before ClearSEO started working with OsoyoosHomes.com, it had none of the following keywords in the top 200 positions at least. Within 2 weeks of ClearSEO’s search engine optimization efforts being applied to OsoyoosHomes.com, we are proud to present the following results that have made onto the first page of Google. There are many other extremely relevant keywords that are also in the top 10 search engine results in Google, Yahoo and MSN, but here are the highlights:

CzechStones.com, after being featured in the last case study, unfortunately has dropped out of sight (so it seems) from the world of Google. It is rather daughting for an SEO.
Although, here are the lessons learned from CzechStones.com:
- It is possible for small websites with no inbound links to achieve a top 10 position on Google. Small sites, meaning sites with less than 6 pages in total.
- It is very important for a website to have good navigational structure, strategically formed titles with good keywords, well written meta tags of description and keywords.
- Without inbound links, a site that follows all SEO industry standards may do well, but it is absolutely crucial to maintain fresh content on the website, and keep updating information to keep the website “live”.
So where did CzechStones.com go wrong?
The mistake that CzechStones.com made is:
- Lack of content update. After it established a good site structure which followed all advisable SEO practices & standards, the site just lay there without any more fresh content for months and months. When it did have fresh content, even if it’s just a one sentence change a week, it was able to maintain its top 10 position.
- Lack of inbound links. Although it is proven that one can build a small site and get a top 10 position on a 2-word keyword phrase, the site is highly vulnerable to any algorithmic changes from Google. It would have been more stable if it had some quality back links.

CzechStones.com has been in existence since 2005. By now, it is already 2 years old. Within the first few weeks of its birth, it quickly climbed up to positions in the top 15 in both Google, Yahoo, and MSN. In the world of Search Engine Optimization, this could be considered quite impressive!
So, what did we do to make CzechStones.com rise up in the SERPs so fast?
We simply followed all the basic SEO industry standards:
- Content - We provided content that are valuable to our customers.
- Site structure - We made sure that the site and its navigation is built so that it’s both user friendly and search engine friendly.
- Title tags - It is the most important tag in the entire html source code. Make sure you put your keywords in the title tag for good rankings.
- Image alt tags - Make sure you label your images’ alt tags to have it found if someone’s looking for an image of the product you are selling in, for example, Google Images.
- Meta tags - Especially the description tag, make sure you describe in 2 to 3 sentences what your business is all about, so that when someone sees your site in the SERPs that they’ll know what you do or sell. Make it enticing! As for the keyword tag, don’t ignore it. Put some keywords in there, but don’t count on the keyword tags to bring you traffic from the search engines.
- robots.txt - Last but not least, oh by far, robots.txt is very very simple, so don’t forget about it.
After the site was born without much defects (SEO-wise), it was time to promote it. All the SEO experts will tell you that promoting a brand new site is one of the most difficult tasks. Well, it is! Unlike the current world where the youngin’s are always winning over the elderlies, in the world of search engines, you have to do a lot more work to promote a young (star) site than trying to promote an older one.
So, what did we do to promote the new born website?
- Use Google Sitemap & Webmaster Tools - These are tools made by Google to make our lives easier, so do take advantage of it. Submit your sitemaps (yes create a HTML version & a XML version sitemap for your site). Make your images searchable by Google. There are a wack of other tools that are very handy for daily running and index status checking, so check back with it often.
- Submit your site to directories like How to submit your site to the Yahoo Directory & Dmoz and How to submit your site to MSN directory
Now CzechStones.com is at position #9 on Google for the keywords “czech rhinestones”. Pretty sweet for a tiny little site that don’t have many back-links at all.
What more could we have done?
- Get yourself listed in other business directories - Is there a forum that talks about the kind of things you sell? Make sure your name is on their directory of vendors.
- Produce & upload videos about your products to the popular video storage places like YouTube, Google Video, etc. Also, don’t forget to upload some in the P2P download engines if applicable. Be creative, but be ethical. Don’t ever spam.
